The 2008 Chevrolet Express passenger van is available in two different lengths (a standard 135-inch wheelbase or a long-body 155-inch wheelbase) and in three levels of duty (the standard 1500, the mid-range 2500, and the heavy-duty 3500). The 1500 and 2500 are only offered in the shorter wheelbase, but the 3500 is offered with either length. The 1500 is powered by GM's 5.3L GEN-IV Vortec V8 gas engine, which can also be ordered with flex-fuel capability. On the 2500 and 3500, the 323-horsepower 6.0L V8 is standard. On the 3500, this engine can tow up to 7,400 pounds. Regardless of the engine, a four-speed automatic transmission is standard. The Express passenger van's interior has been updated with a new steering wheel, an expanded driver information center, and revised audio systems. All Express models get a four-speed automatic transmission with special tow/haul mode for a more predictable shift pattern when towing or carrying a heavy load. When properly equipped, the Express can tow up to 7,400 pounds, which makes it especially attractive to those with boats or camper-trailers. An all-wheel drive system is available on the 1500 model but not available on the 3500. The StabiliTrak stability control system, which helps maintain control on slippery roads or in abrupt maneuvers, is standard, as are four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, with dynamic rear proportioning for confident braking even when fully loaded. Eight-passenger seating, with three rows and front bucket seats, is standard with the shorter wheelbase while the longer-wheelbase 3500 version comes with twelve-passenger seating. The LT Preferred Equipment Group bundles popular options like power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, and upgraded upholstery.
